Website Modernisation
Your website still works. But does it still belong on today’s internet?
The lower price commits you to twelve months of Website Care — nothing longer. How the two prices work.
“It’s been working perfectly well for fifteen years — why would I replace it?” is a completely reasonable question, and usually the answer is that you shouldn’t.
Older websites don’t generally fail because the design dated. They become difficult and eventually impossible to maintain because the technology underneath them goes obsolete — the PHP version stops being supported, the hosting moves on, the browsers change, and one day a routine update takes the whole thing down.
Modernisation deals with that without throwing away a site that’s been earning its keep for a decade. I assess what you have, identify what genuinely needs updating, and tell you honestly whether modernising makes more sense than starting again.
You don’t pay for a rebuild where a modernisation will do the job.
Stage one — audit
£295–£495, depending on the size of the site, and credited in full against the work that follows. I go through what’s actually under the bonnet:
- PHP version and end-of-life status
- Database and MySQL version
- JavaScript and libraries
- CMS and plugins
- Hosting environment
- SSL and security
- Forms and email delivery
- Third-party integrations
- Mobile behaviour
- Performance
Stage two — the plan
A straight four-way split, so you can see exactly what you’d be paying for and what you wouldn’t.
- Keep — what’s still perfectly good
- Replace — what’s genuinely obsolete
- Repair — what’s broken now
- Improve — what’s worth changing while I’m in there
Stage three — the work
Quoted from the plan rather than estimated in advance. If the audit shows a rebuild really is the better value, I’ll tell you that — and the audit fee comes off that instead. This is unpredictable work by nature: fifteen-year-old code hides things, and the price reflects carrying that risk rather than passing it to you mid-job.
Start with an audit.
Tell me what you’re trying to achieve, what’s going wrong, or what you’re worried about — and I’ll tell you honestly what I think the sensible option is.
